Iran Declares It May Return to American Atomic Talks provided that Approached with 'Respect' and 'Respect'
Iran is willing to restart nuclear discussions with the United States provided that it is approached with "respect" and "respect", Tehran's top diplomat has declared.
The Iranian diplomat declared only diplomacy produced results, and revealed recent overtures had originated from intermediaries to resume negotiations with the American leadership. He said Iran did not have unreported enrichment locations, and Tehran could not yet permit the UN nuclear inspectorate to access struck enrichment centers for security reasons.
Navigating a Difficult Path
The foreign minister is treading a difficult route since Iran does not want be seen to be proceeding from a position of disadvantage, and he emphatically stated that Iran had come out more powerful militarily and psychologically from the joint assault on its atomic facilities in June.
He was addressing at a security conference in Tehran where he reaffirmed that Iran had "a fundamental entitlement to refine atomic fuel within its borders that it will always maintain" – the key factor of the stalemate in the earlier negotiations.
Earlier Negotiations Unexpectedly Concluded
The previous five rounds of negotiations between the US and Iran were concluded unexpectedly and bitter end on 12 June when the Israeli government, with Washington's assistance, struck Tehran's atomic facilities in a fortnight-long engagement that concluded with the US president claiming the sites had been obliterated. Subsequently, EU nations employed their authority to reimpose global restrictions, but Iran insists they have not had a significant effect.
Ideal Resolution Offered
Tehran representatives said they felt they had reached a "magic solution" to the nuclear fuel concern in earlier negotiations, when it was agreed an domestic cooperative with US participation could process nuclear material. Each party would have been able to declare success since home-based processing would have continued and the US could be assured that Iran's enrichment initiative was exclusively peaceful.
It had not been decided in the talks that US nuclear scientists could function on Iranian soil, but that was a logical implication of the partnership suggestion. Officials claimed three times they had secured an understanding with Washington's diplomat the US official only for the arrangement to collapse due to "detractors in America".
Present Situation
Tehran representatives said the cooperative arrangement was now no longer available, but it seems highly likely the proposal could be resurrected in various formats if talks reopen.
Trump in recent days said he had been obtaining communications that Iran wanted to resume discussions, but privately Tehran representatives claim they are not yet getting coherent offers from Washington either explicitly or from significant local go-betweens, such as the Qatari government, Egypt, Oman and the Saudi kingdom. The Tehran's diplomatic corps has been criticized of inactivity in the aftermath of Trump's direct instinctive approach, but Tehran says dialogue is not part of a performance.
Negotiating Position
In his address to the forum, aimed to portray the US as a controlling nation that misuses the notion of international law, the foreign minister stated the fortnight-long engagement demonstrated the dispute could not be resolved by combat operations. He said the assaults commenced with a Washington's ultimatum for an total Iran submission and culminated with an complete request for a truce.
Iran is convinced the first strikes by Israel were mounted with complete American awareness and collaboration, making confidence hard to reestablish.
Dialogue Stays the Final Resolution
The foreign minister said: "Tehran was not the one that had abandoned negotiations; it was America and the Western nations that had consistently tried to enforce their desires during the discussions. Dialogue can still be active and remains the ultimate resolution to address disputes, but its criteria, rules and principles must be followed."
"Provided that they address to the citizens of Tehran with the language of respect and respect, they will get a reply in the equivalent tone."
Restoration and Rebuilding
In what is characterized by Tehran representatives as the conflict of repair and rebuilding, the foreign minister said he was confident Iran's security strengths "are considerably enhanced than prior to 13 or 14 June of this year. Every aspect of our defense have been rebuilt. We gained many lessons from this engagement; we have identified our internal vulnerabilities and the weaknesses of the opponent."
He stated: "We effectively endured this war. Our atomic expertise, which they intended to obliterate, stays intact. The facilities and equipment, if damaged, will be reconstructed; what is crucial is the resolve of the nation of Iran and then the social solidarity that they aimed at, but were unable to destroy. The citizens of Tehran have developed stronger, more integrated, and more backing of the administration and the country in the wake of this attack."
